"false" root rib plates the dowel,  hangers, and rope the rope goes over a pulley
  • Fabricate a couple of "false root ribs" similar to your root rib out of lite ply
  • Drill a 1-1/2" hole for the wing tube and holes for the anti-rotation pins and the servo wires.
  • On the  Carden 40% Edge the plans recommend the CG to be 6-1/4" back from the Leading Edge of the wing
  • On my plates I drilled on the line through the centre of the wing tube and the anti-rotation pins.
  • Glue a piece of lite ply, about 1" by 3" onto the plate in the CG area
  • Drill through this plate as well as the false root rib
  • Install a #8 blind nut into the drilled hole at the CG location.
  • Fabricate two "hanger plates" which are about 1-1/2" wide and 10" long.
  • On the centre line of these hangers drill a clearance hole for the #8 hanger screw about an in inch or so from one end
  • Drill a another hole about an inch from the other end This hole will accommodate your hanger dowel
  • The anti-rotation pins slide thru the holes in the plate
  • I glued some extra 1/4" thick spacers at the anti-rotation pin locations to space the false rib away from the fuse and the wing
  • The plate is "sandwiched"  between the wing and the fuse
  • Fasten a 1/4" rope to the hanger dowel and loop it through a pully in the ceiling rafters.
  • (you may want to use wider hanger plates and a larger dowel ..say 1' dia or so) so 2 guys can pick up the dowel
  • Raise the plane off your work surface to check the CG
  • I don't think I need to explain the rest... do I  ???

The pages on this web site document MY procedure and assembly of my Carden Edge 540

I am by no means a professional or "master" builder and these procedures may not be the best methods for you.

Carden provides a nice construction guideline and color photos as an aid to building their kits.

I have chosen to build things in a little bit different order than they lay out in their manual
